Absolutely Appalling – Avoid This Place at All Costs Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ Our experience at Sage Hotel in Sea Point was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we arrived, the problems started. • Check-in Disaster: The check-in process was painfully slow and disorganised. Instead of welcoming guests, they make you jump through hoops, including an unnecessary damage deposit that feels more like a scam than a policy. • Family Booking Ignored: We booked for two adults and two children, expecting a family-friendly arrangement. Instead, they split us up across different floors! What kind of hotel thinks it’s acceptable to separate children from their parents? • Manipulative Policies: When we asked for confirmation of room numbers before check-in, the staff flatly refused. This forces you to proceed with check-in and lose the chance to cancel. It’s a deliberate tactic to trap guests into staying, even when the arrangements are completely unacceptable. • Hostel Vibes, Not Hotel Standards: The overall atmosphere and service are closer to a low-budget hostel than a hotel. Zero professionalism, zero consideration for families, and absolutely no sense of hospitality. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, do not book here. There are plenty of better options in Sea Point – this one should be avoided at all costs.

We loved our stay at The Sage. We booked through Rest Easy, and they were FANTASTIC. They got us access to our unit upon arrival. Everything was fully stocked and questions answered quickly. Several communal spaces including a courtyard, lounge, and office area for working. The entire building also has generators so you still have wifi and can make food during load shedding in the district. Front desk was friendly and got us set up in their system quickly so we could get into the garage for our parking spot. We were in a 1 bd which had nice views of Lion's Head and ocean. The apartment was fully stocked with everything we needed. Full kitchen, washer/dryer, kitchen & bathroom soaps, tea, coffee, biscuits, body wash, towels, fans, a heater, and fast WiFi. The WiFi was fast w no issues during video conferences. Great location w lots of restaurants, bakeries, and shops close by. There's a Woolworths on the same block, and just across the street a Pilates a studio, Movement. The Sage has a lot of short-term rental options (studios, 1 or 2 bd configurations). We had friends staying in other units at the building so we got a chance to explore a few of the other accommodations. It worked out great for our group to be together booking multiple units and we will be doing this again. We loved our experience and thad no issues with the rental agency/cleaners. We did hear mixed reviews from friends about hiccups or challenges with some of their bookings from the other agencies/owners. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and will definitely be returning to this building for future visits to Cape Town.
Absolutely recommend The Sage. First and foremost Ralton the building manager was sooo helpful, welcoming and always smiling. He assisted us with anything we required. Its people like this that boost an establishments reputation. This guy is awesome!!! The unit itself was perfect and had every appliance we could think off even a Nespresso machine with pods. The apartment we stayed in was clean. The Sage is very central to everything and is in the perfect location in sea point to walk to any of of the restaurant's or shops. Safe and highly recommended place. Shout out again to Ralton keep up the great service
I strongly urge travelers to avoid The Sage Aparthotel by Totalstay. My experience was not just poor service - it involved what felt like scam-like, fraudulent, and deeply unethical behavior. I booked a total of 5 nights split across 3 separate reservations. Upon arrival for the first 3 nights, I was told the property was overbooked. The staff claimed they could not locate my Agoda reservation in their internal system and instructed me to cancel it through Agoda myself - even though this was clearly their operational failure. Then came the most dishonest part. For the final 1-night reservation, the property suddenly refused to cancel, claiming they had availability. So they were “overbooked” when it suited them, but had availability when refusing a cancellation benefited them financially. As a result, I lost over USD$140 due entirely to their inconsistent and self-serving handling of my bookings. To make matters worse, a front desk staff member named Siyo told me to discuss the issue with his manager via WhatsApp. I requested multiple times to speak directly over the phone to resolve the matter properly. Despite these repeated requests, the manager never contacted me and completely avoided communication. There was no call back, no follow-up, and no accountability. This pattern of behavior - overbooking, shifting responsibility to the guest, refusing cancellation selectively, and then avoiding direct communication - felt highly unprofessional and deceptive. There are many alternative accommodations in the Sea Point area that are similar or better in quality and far more reliable. I strongly recommend choosing another property to avoid unnecessary financial loss and stress.
